Reading Reads Red Clover

The Red Clover Book Award is designed for children in kindergarten through fourth grade. Each year thousands of Vermont school children read the 10 nominated picture books and vote for their favorite. The award has been handed out annually since 1997. In Reading, children read the Read Clover books in their classrooms and also engage with the books during Mrs. Kaija's art class. Thank you to the Reading Public Library for loaning us the Red Clover books for our studies!

This year's winner of the Red Clover Award was Shh! We Have a Plan!

Kelton, Joey liked how you wrote about the dog taking care of the man (instead of vice versa). Alexis liked your ending on why people should vote for this book.

Brody, we thought you included lots of great details, and did a nice job explaining how the grandfather wore out his coat. This book was one of our class' favorites.

Mrs. Mayo and Vera (Friday, 29 April 2016 08:20)

We thought it was great how you backed up your claims with evidence (like when you described how the mouse was an inventor). We also liked how you included your favorite parts, and why other readers might enjoy this book.

Nik and Tara (Friday, 29 April 2016 08:16)

We thought your ending was really great ("Hooray for Red Clover Books!"). We liked how you mentioned the hunter who was different from his friends. We also thought you had great enthusiasm!

Alexis and Lilly (Friday, 29 April 2016 08:12)

Devon, we liked how you said the characters would make us laugh. Its a good way to convince people to read the book. We also liked how you mentioned the big bird and how you wrote about the hunters falling in the lake.

Rue and Lilly (Friday, 22 April 2016 08:44)

Damian, we thought you read with lots of great expression and included important parts that made this story memorable - that the characters were brave, and that the story was funny.

  • #3

    Aubrey (Friday, 22 April 2016 08:40)

Sage, I liked your ending 'You should vote for Blizzard if you like to play in the snow' because the main character played outside in the snow a lot and readers can imagine themselves being him.

Mrs. Mayo and Brendan (Friday, 22 April 2016 08:36)

Maya, we really liked how you introduced your book review, and how you weren't nervous at all. Mrs. Mayo's favorite part was when Elizabeth returned for the final time, after crossing such a huge ocean distance.

Evie, we really like all the details you put into your review, and how you included a lot of the main parts of the story!
